Thanksgiving shopping

I made some changes to my shopping plan. I took Fry's as my first stop of Black Friday. Then I spent 10 minutes in Sears, and then grocery shopping in Walmart, CVS and HEB. Finally, I went to Macy's, bought a pair of shoes and got home at 9:30. I skipped Target, CircuitCity and HomeDepot.
I was happy that I got everything I wanted, such as free-after-rebate Moto bluetooth headphone, $10 microwave, etc. Some There were so many early birds. I found 300 people waiting in front of Fry's. Also, many people who came later, didn't bother to wait in the queue and jumped in rudely.

early bird, late bird

11/23,9pm,Compusa,Moto Bluetooth Headset
11/24,5am,Sears,$10 Gift Card,Home Theater,maybe shoes
11/24,5:30am,HomeDepot,Christmas Tree, hope I can still get one,and it can fit into my car
11/24,6am,Target,Microwave Oven
11/24,6:30,Walmart,Grocery
11/24,7:30,Circuit City to see if there are any FAR's left
11/24,8:30,bed, home

frustrated

More ICCAD

I told myself that I should put on my second part of ICCAD last weekend, but didn't have a chance to do so until now. Where did I stop last time? Oh, it was Monday night's Prison Break. Tuesday was dull. I attended several sessions. On Wednesday and Thursday, I went to our headquater and meet folks there discussing my works. The best part is Thursday night. We had a CMU alumni reunion. We had almost everyone that who had overlap with me at ECE and now in Bayare at the dinner. I do appreciate Kelvin's organization skill, though I don't think he can see my compliments to him here. He is too lazy to check my blog because it is not msn spaces and does not show a star on the msn messenger. Well, he will not see my complaints too. :) Back to topic, we had 14 people and had a lot of fun chatting. Hope this can happen often. Well, someone will try to pursuade me to move to Bay Area again leh...:D

ICCAD

Time flies by. It is November and ICCAD again. I can still clearly remember last year's ICCAD. Well, anyway. This year, I shared the flight with many UT folks. On the flight, I realized that it was my sixth trip to Bay Area. I killed most of my time playing Suduko. Damn, that game killed me. My head ached on those numbers. I can't believe that I was fond of the numbers ten, fifteen years ago.
After I checked in, I went to pick up the badge/proceedings from the conference. The weird thing happend. I can't get into my room with my key. I was like, am I that old to have forgotten my room number? I called the front desk, and they sent someone to open my room. I got the new key and turned in the old one. Then, I dined out with Kelvin for hot pot. I am kinda "earthy". Every time I visited Bay Area, I went to that same restaurant in Milpitas for hot pot. I just love it.
Monday is the day. I had a session to chair in late afternoon from 4pm to 6pm. I got up early to have the speaker's breakfast, listened to our CTO's keynote speech, attended two other sessions. I was quite nervous as I had never chair any presentaions before. At 3:40, I had all the speakers to upload their slides, collected their bio forms, learned how to play with the timer, and waited anxiously for 4pm. The session was quite good. It drew a lot of attention from the audience. There was a large attendence as well as many questions. Well, that was quite expected at the very beginning when I saw Chandu. Those questions actually saved me a lot of efforts and helped me control the situation. Some questions were tough. I struggled. On one hand, I tried to help the speakers out but on the other hand I was afraid to 惹祸上身。I finally decided not to as it was the speakers that were asked. Maybe that is the Chinese saying:不求有功,但求无过。After my session, I went to an evening panel. Rob presented a short talk and his slides were so cool. At 7:45pm, I left the conference and rushed back to my hotel room. It was Prison Break time. However, for a second time, I was locked outside my room. My "new" key didn't work. I had to called the front desk again to get myself in. It took me 10 minutes and fortunately, I didn't miss much on PB.

What The Fuck!

This afternoon, I got an email from a colleague telling me that my scripts not working. I have discontent for her for a while. She took over my scripts for three months now but never tried to understand it. The only thing she can do is to run the scripts. Every single time, if there is a change of the model or something, she asked me for help. I've been wondering why should she get paid while I did her job. Ok, today, she sent me the log file of the error she got. It took me 4 hours' of my precious life to find out that when she modified the spice models, she delected my comment character * at the beginning of the file as well. As a result, my comment was taken by hspice as a wrong command. What the fuck! I was really pissed off by her. She ruined my Friday evening. In my reply to her, I pointed out her stupid error and cc'ed the email to a manager.

machine down

From 10:20am this morning, my workstation went down and it has been hanging ever since. At 10:20, my linux froze. I can't type in anything. So I hard rebooted my machine. Well, that was an awful decision, coz I was no longer able to get red hat loaded. I called the system admin at 10:40 and was asked to wait. And I am still waiting. After I had a meeting with my manager at 3pm, I decided to go home. At least, from home I can ssh to a working machine and do something. Sigh...
