A bitter loss
Steelers' last second loss to Patriots was heartbreaking. Steelers were 7 points down with only 3 minutes remaining in the fourth quater. They fought back. Big Ben contributed a couple of excellent passings and Pittsburgh got back with a touch down in the last 2 minutes. However, Patriots drove back. They scored a field goal in the last second and took away a 23:20 win from Heinz Field, Pittsburgh. This game also ended Ben Roethlisberger's 16 consecutive regular season wins as a starter. His last loss was to New England Patriots as well, which was the AFC final last season. Wish Steelers beat Patriots in this year's playoff.

Hurricane Rita is coming
Rita, a category 5 hurricane is heading towardTexas. It's gonna arrive in Austin sometime this Saturday. The forecast shows that the wind speed can reach 70 miles per hour in Austin this weekend. Residents in Houston are evacuating. My roommate's sister may come for the weekend from Houston. From NO's experiences, people are panic loading all kinds of stuffs. The Walmart that I went to after work today sold out drinking waters. I grabbed a lot of food and am getting ready for the hurricane at home. Hopefully by then we still have electricity. I also fueled my tank in case I need to evacuate to Dallas. :P Flash light, radio, food, drinking water and extra cellphone battery are ready at hand.

Happy Hours
Our team in the company held a happy afternoon event today. All members of the group first had pizza lunch together and received a company shirt at 11:30. Then we headed to Main Event, which is a casino, though not like those in Vegas for gambling. At door, I got a $35 gift card for this afternoon. The company reserved Bowling, Billiards, Card Games so that they were all free of charge. Therefore, it was hard for me to use up all the credit in the gift card. I first played 3 games of Bowling. The last time that I played Bowling was back to year 2001 or even 2000, when I hanged out with high school buddies. I got 84, 86 and 132 for the three games. Quite impressive that I could still hit over 120 after that long. Three consecutive games made my fingers and forearm fatigued. Then I play two games of Billiards with one of my colleagues and won both. It attributes to the practices that I did in my apartment club house last month. :) The next one is laser tag. We 18 people were divided into two teams. Each person put on a vest with lights and sensors in the front, back, left and right and hold a phaser or laser gun to shoot others at the lights. It was the first time that I played this popular US game. The game was of great fun. I did a pretty good job by getting 8150 points in 15 minutes, 3rd on our red team. Our enemy, the blue team was much stronger, they beat us by a large advantage. The game was exhausting, I could hardly walk after it. (seems that I need more exercises.:)) After a beer of rest, I played Black Jack for a while. I won a lot, but gave up all the tokens after I was told that no token could be cashed. It was a waste of time by YYing in front of the table. :P I wasted quite some money on 机械手抓玩具 and played dancing mat for a while. Finally, I found one good game in the corner -- Boxing. I carried two gloves and wave my fists in front of the screen to attack, and move my feet and dance my body to dodge the heavy hit from the opponent. If I got 3 hits from my opponent, I lost one life. And three lifes are one game. I find myself quite talented in boxing. I took my first opponent's three lifes in one round and without losing a single life of mine. The fight was tiring because I need to hit him like 20 times to knock him down. The second opponent was much better. I knocked him down twice and he took my two lifes too. For the final fight, I lost by one hit. Sigh. The game rated me as a 3-star(out of 5 stars) professional by my aggressiveness, stamina, swiftness, and skills. Haha. Very happy. When I left for home, I still have some money in the card. I'll be back!!!

try failed
I uploaded a new song in my blog 3 days ago. Unlike this song, the new song was in .wma format. For some unkown reasons, .wma files can't be played properly. After 2 minutes of playing, the IE window came up with an illegal operation message and closed automatically. So, I changed it back to my old song, which is in the format of .mp3.

My first car accident
I was hit by a black male this Sunday. I was stopping my car in the driveway in front of an automatic apartment gate waiting for it to open while getting my sun glasses, the dude backed his Toyota Avalon out of his parking space and hit directly into the left front door of my vechile. Fortunately, his speed was like 5 mph, or I might not be able to blog now. His car was hard and showed no damage. However, there were pretty obvious dents on my vehicle. He was polite, said sorry to me immediately and let me get all his information. I called police, but they refused to take this case by saying it happened in a private property. Darn~. Since it was all the other party's fault, I should be cool. I was glad that I was not injured. And next time when I myself back my car, I should be extremely careful.
my room

When I uploaded the photos of my Monday tour, I found two photos of my room. I took them after I moved to this new apartment.
baptist church

It was labor day this Monday. One baptist church in Austin organized a city tour for the new students. Though I was by no means a new student, they were nice and welcomed me to the tour. We trailed on Mt. Bonnell, picniced in Zilker Park, toured in State Capitol and shopped groceries in an asian store. It was pretty cool and leisure. Here is the view from the top of Mt. Bonnell.
major news
I haven't blogged for a while. In the past week, there were two major news.
Without doubts, the most important one is Katrina. The hurricane destroied New Orleans and thousands of people died. Texas accepted more than 220,000 evacuees from Houston to San Antonio to Dallas. The recovery is very tough. Due to the hurricane, both crude oil and gas price soared last week. The average gas price in Austin climbed above $2.80 per gallon. As a result, the economy expectation was revised down and the stock markets plummet. I had a very bad week. :(
The second news is that a female student of Purdue University shot her husband, also a Ph.D. student of Purdue U. and abandoned his body in a car trunk. She fled back to China and got caught in Shanghai when she tried to walk through the customs with her husband's passport. Both students were from Shanghai. Sigh.
