Day 2: Pittsburgh
On Sunday morning it was the commencement ceremony. After the commencement, I became Dr. Zhan officially. The weather was bad. It was cold and raining while the ceremory was in the football court without shade. There were lots of speaches, the keynote speach sucks especially. No one cared what the Qatar princess talked about. Our department diploma ceremony was right after that. My advisor would fly to Europe so he didn't attend. I do appreciate that he flew from Japan to Pittsburgh on Friday just for my hooding. Due to the delay of the commencement, Zhong had to leave early to catch his flight. It was another long wait for all the Ph.D.'s, masters and bachelors to get their diploma. I saw Lynn, Elaine, Judy, Shawn and Larry. I had a little talk with Larry and a nice chat with Judy. Also, I saw Wende's couple and we took some photos together. After that, I showed my parents around CMU, the newly erected statue of Mao Yisheng, the fences, the many halls, the schenley park, the museums, the green house, and of course, Mt. Washington again, which we should have visited a day earlier. We had dinner at Oriental Kitchen, the so-called best Chinese restaurant in Pittsburgh. Only it has round tables to sit more than 10 people. I remeber that almost every one treats friends in that restaurant after his/her defense.
